Wedge Anchor (Through Bolt) – Zinc Plated Heavy Duty Concrete Stud

Wedge Anchor (Through Bolt). Zinc plated heavy-duty torque controlled expansion stud for solid concrete.

  • Product: Wedge Anchor
  • Type: Through-Fixing Bolt
  • Material: Carbon Steel Grade 5.8
  • Use: Structural Concrete Fixing
Category:

The Wedge Anchor (commonly referred to globally as a “Through Bolt” or “Stud Anchor”) is the premier choice for heavy-duty fastening in cracked and non-cracked concrete. Unlike sleeve anchors which expand along their entire length, the Wedge Anchor features a specialized expansion clip at the tip. This allows for superior shear strength because the anchor shaft is the same diameter as the drill hole, maximizing steel density within the fixture.

Product Overview: Manufactured from high-grade Carbon Steel with Blue-White Zinc Plating, our Wedge Anchor is designed for “Through-Fixing.” This means you can drill through the fixture plate directly into the concrete and hammer the anchor in without moving the heavy equipment, saving hours of alignment time.

Engineering Insight: How the “Wedge” Works

The reliability of a Wedge Anchor comes from its simple yet powerful design:

  • The Clip: The small metal band at the bottom is free-floating. When you hammer the anchor into the hole, the clip compresses.
  • The Pull: When you tighten the nut, the stud is pulled UP. The tapered mandrel at the bottom of the stud moves into the clip, forcing the clip to expand permanently into the concrete walls.
  • Safety Note: Because it relies on extreme expansion pressure, Wedge Anchors should NEVER be used in brick, block, or green concrete (less than 28 days old), as they will crack the substrate.

Installation Guide

  1. Drill: Drill a hole of the nominal diameter (e.g., 12mm bit for M12 anchor) to the required depth.
  2. Clean: Blow out the dust. This is critical—dust acts like a lubricant and can reduce holding power by 40%.
  3. Install: Hammer the Wedge Anchor through the fixture until the washer touches the surface.
  4. Torque: Tighten the nut to the specified installation torque (Tinst) using a torque wrench. Do not over-tighten!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Is this ETA Approved?
A: We offer ETA Option 7 (Non-Cracked Concrete) and Option 1 (Cracked Concrete) certified anchors upon request for structural projects.

Q: Can I remove it?
A: No. A Wedge Anchor is a permanent fixing. To remove the fixture, you must cut the stud off with an angle grinder.
