Heavy Duty Rivet Nuts (Blind Threaded Inserts): The Solution for Thin Sheet Metal
At Handan Bolt, we are a premier manufacturer of industrial Rivet Nuts, also widely known in the global market as Blind Threaded Inserts or Nutserts. Produced in our Yongnian facility, these fasteners solve a critical engineering problem: how to create strong, reusable threads in thin materials that are too thin to be tapped. We supply millions of these knurled inserts annually to the automotive, aerospace, and electronics industries.
What is a Rivet Nut?
A Rivet Nut (Read more on Wikipedia) is a tubular rivet with internal threads. It can be installed in seconds form one side of the work (hence the term “blind”), making it perfect for boxed sections or tubes where you cannot access the rear side.
Key Feature: The Knurled Body (Anti-Spin)
As clearly shown in your product image, our Rivet Nuts feature a Knurled Body (a textured pattern on the outside of the shank).
Why is this important?
- Anti-Rotation: When a bolt is tightened into the nut, torque is applied. A smooth body might spin inside the hole, making it impossible to tighten. Our knurled design bites into the sheet metal, providing significantly higher torque-to-turn resistance.
- Vibration Resistance: The tight grip prevents the insert from loosening over time.
Head Styles: Flat Head vs. Reduced Head
We manufacture “According to Drawing” to suit your specific assembly needs, but the two most common styles are:
- Flat Head (Shown in image): Features a prominent flange that sits on top of the material. This provides the maximum push-out resistance and load-bearing surface.
- Reduced Head (Countersunk): A smaller, thinner head that sits almost flush with the material, used where surface flatness is required.
Material and Finish Options
We offer Rivet Nuts in materials tailored to your strength and corrosion requirements:
1. Carbon Steel (Zinc Plated)
Our standard offering (Grade 6 equivalent). Made from high-quality carbon steel and finished with Zinc Plating (CR3+). This offers a cost-effective solution with excellent strength and rust protection for indoor machinery and automotive chassis.
2. Stainless Steel (304 / 316)
For food processing equipment or outdoor enclosures, stainless steel rivet nuts are essential to prevent rust streaks and maintain hygiene.
3. Aluminum
Lightweight and corrosion-resistant, ideal for aerospace and drone manufacturing where weight savings are critical.
Installation: Fast and Simple
One of the biggest advantages of our Rivet Nuts is the ease of installation:
- Drill a hole in the sheet metal.
- Insert the rivet nut.
- Use a rivet nut tool (manual or pneumatic) to pull the threaded section back.
- The shank collapses and bulges against the back of the sheet, clamping it permanently.
Common Applications
Rivet nuts are the unsung heroes of modern manufacturing:
- Automotive: Attaching roof racks, spoilers, and plastic trim to car bodies.
- Furniture: Creating threaded points in hollow metal table legs.
- Electronics: Mounting circuit boards to computer cases (Server Racks).
- HVAC: Assembling ductwork and air conditioning units.
Why Source from Handan Bolt?
Custom Tooling: We can produce non-standard lengths or thread sizes based on your technical drawing.
Wide Range: Sizes from M3 up to M12 usually in stock.
Quality Assurance: We test the “Pull-Out Force” and “Torque-Out” strength of every batch to ensure they meet industrial standards.
