The Handan Bolt Chipboard Screw (technically known as a Particle Board Screw) is a specialized self-tapping fastener designed specifically for gripping composite wood materials. Manufactured to the DIN 7505 standard, these screws feature a slim shank and coarse, deep threads that bite firmly into the loose structure of chipboard, MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard), and natural softwoods without causing the material to crumble or split.

Engineering Insight: Why “Chipboard” Design?

Standard wood screws often fail in particle board because the material is composed of glued wood chips rather than solid grain. Our screw design addresses this:

1. Deep Thread Geometry

The thread diameter is significantly larger than the shank diameter. This high “thread profile” digs deep into the composite material, maximizing the surface area of engagement. This is critical for preventing the screw from stripping out when a cabinet door is opened and closed repeatedly.

2. Pozi vs. Phillips Drive

While we offer both, the Pozi drive (PZ) is the industry preference for chipboard screws. Unlike Phillips, which is designed to cam-out (slip) under high torque, Pozi features parallel sidewalls and extra cross-grooves. This allows the installer to apply the massive torque needed to drive the screw flush into dense MDF without the bit slipping and damaging the screw head.

3. Double Countersunk Head with Nibs

The “Double Countersunk” head is reinforced for strength. Optional Underhead Nibs (Cutting Ribs) act like miniature router bits. As the head hits the wood surface, these ribs clear away material, allowing the screw to sink perfectly flush without splitting the delicate melamine or veneer coating.

Selection Guide: DIN 7505A vs. DIN 7505B

• DIN 7505A (Partial Thread): Use this when fastening two pieces of wood together (e.g., flooring to joists). The unthreaded shank allows the top board to be pulled tightly against the bottom board (“clamping effect”).
• DIN 7505B (Full Thread): Use this for mounting hardware (hinges, runners) where grip is needed along the entire length of the screw.
